Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
The song from the movie Fireproof is running through my head, the one where they have the movie playing over the music. One of the lyrics is "I will worship while I'm waiting"...the character played by Kirk Cameron is a firefighter and he does run into dangerous situations to save other people's lives, never thinking he could lose his own in these circumstance. It's just his job, it's what he does. But have you ever been put into a circumstance that required your quick thinking in order to help save another person's life?
I was told about a friend of my family's accident this past weekend. Some of you may know him, Joe Curtis. His wife, Rikki, is one of my aunt's best friends. And I'm not a person who wants to tell a story second hand so I won't try to give details too much b/c I don't want to be wrong about anything. I do know that there was someone who arrived at the scene of a barn equipment accident who thought quickly on their feet and gave no second thoughts to what he had to do in order to save the man's life.
Do you panic when a situation becomes too tense or stressful? Or do you try to remedy the problem and make the situation better for those involved? I'm not suggesting you make a circumstance better if the person clearly needs to be made uncomfortable b/c of bad choices or bad behavior, I'm meaning, when a circumstance can be made better b/c it needs to be made better.
My pastor, Kenny Carr at Long Heights Baptist Church has been preaching a series on Sunday mornings titled "Spiritual Warfare". Today's sermon was about the full armor of God which He gives us in His word, Ephesians 6:13-17. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
So what does the armor of God have to do with helping someone out in a bad situation? Look around you...every day people are in circumstances that if a person who knows Jesus personally would reach out to them in love, love from God...you could change someone's world for the rest of their life. It won't always be coming up roses and every event be seen through 'rose colored' glasses but you can offer them hope with Jesus Christ. Brother Kenny, this morning, mentioned that "nature tends to preserve itself....but human nature leads itself to self destruction". "There is an unseen source that fuels this system of self destruction and it is the world." He also added that this system is "well ordered and well run, it is intentional....it is ANTICHRIST....working overtime. As Christians you need to know the enemy's tactics and use the weapons given to us by God." "We need to be Kingdom Warriors, not Kingdom Wimps!"
Have you ever been in a situation where you were the only person who could save a perishing life? How did it feel when God gave you the ability to help save their life? I've taken extensive training classes on CPR. I've never had to use it but if given the opporunity, I wouldn't waste it b/c I didn't feel qualified. As a believer in Christ, we shouldn't feel unqualified either. Just tell someone how good God has been to you and your family. Just tell that co-worker sitting next to you that Jesus loves them and you know why, b/c the Bible says so. Just simple every day conversations about how wonderful your Savior is to you is all God asks of us when He said to be His witnesses. Just go tell somebody about how awesome He really is to you. God blesses you when you earnestly tell others about His mighty works. I dare you to turn to someone today and with the biggest grin you can put on your face say, "Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so." And/or sing "Jesus loves me" song....both would be even better. Now if you get put somewhere and they tell you to take little blue pills for your nerves, I'm not responsible. They usually let me go home after 5-8 days, so you'll be fine, just ride it out.
